While using it hunting, the handle to the bolt flew out, I found the bolt, re-inserted it, but could not rack the bolt back to load the gun. I've tried field stripping the gun, taking the barrel off, bolt out and trigger assembly off and reassembling the gun.It is a Remington Sportsman 48 from 1950 (barrel code KWW) VR barrel stamped skeet with a polychoke and most unusually, custom engraving on the receiver. On close inspection the name "KUHL" can be found. In googling it appears an Orville Kuhl is a known engraver but little seems to turn up. If it were to go bad the gun would trying to feed an additional round as well as failing to extract. Sep 1, 2012 · There is no Remington "48" . There is an 11-48, Sportsman 48, and Mohawk 48. I have owned all of them of various gauges. The Sportsman is different in that it is a 3 shot, 1 in the chamber and 2 in the mag. Parts of sames gauge are interchangeable. Mag extension from 870 will fit an 11-48.
